Sidekick Showcase [85] - Loyal Dhampir

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, put your link in below and grab the code for your post so you can see the others that post their's throughout the week as well

Topic ideas for July:
HOT, Patriot, and Red-heads.

My choice is Eddie Castille
Vampire Academy / Bloodlines by Richelle Mead

This week I'm going on a loose interpretation of patriot. In The Vampire Academy series, Eddie started out by playing the role of Mason's best friend. He is a dhampir, and they are trained to guard the Moroi, a branch of 'good' vampires. As the series progressed, I watched him go from silly, fun, jokester, to obsessively loyal, dependable, and serious guardian. During their field experience, Eddie was found to be one of the absolute best and promising guardians there. He is as close as a brother to Rose Hathaway and later to Sydney Sage as well. What his world is focused on though, is protecting Jillian Mastrano. When he is not on protection duty for Jill, he's working with other dhampirs and Moroi to find out how spirit effects them.

Quotes:

“I want her to be happy. It's worth sacrificing myself."

“Eddie became about one percent less tense.”

"My job is to protect her. To keep her safe. That’s where all my attention needs to be.”

“Your boyfriend and Micah will both be speechless."
I unfastened my seatbelt. "That's the third time I've heard 'your boyfriend.' What's going on about that? Why won't anyone say Brayden's name?"
Neither of them answered right away. Finally, Jill said sheepishly, "Because none of us can remember it."
"Oh, come on! I'd expect that from Adrian but not you guys. It's not that weird of a name."
"No," admitted Eddie. "But there's just something so...I don't know. Unmemorable about him. I'm glad he makes you happy, but I just start to tune out whenever he talks.”

“You know how to make turkey? How would you have learnt that?" From what I knew, most dhampirs stayed nearly year-round at their schools from an early age. Not a lot of culinary time.
"Hey," he said, straight-faced. "All knowledge is worth having."
Jill laughed. "He wouldn't tell me either.”
