Sidekick Showcase [45] - Wolf of the Night
Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:
• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, put your link in below and grab the code for your post so you can see the others that post their's throughout the week as well
We are doing creatures of the night Sidekick Showcase themes for this month to celebrate Halloween. So for the whole month the choices should be witches, wizards, vampires, ghosts, ghouls, zombies, monsters, and the like!
For the whole Month of October, we're doing Creatures of the Night.
My choice is Wolf
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
My choice is Wolf
The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
Here is what I said about Wolf in my review: "Wolf is an enigma. Even by the end with all that happens in the story, I feel like I don't know all that's going on with him. He's very difficult to read whether he's good or bad throughout the story and Scarlet moves from distrust to a resigned collaboration, to trust, and back often due to all that unfolds. I really like his character a lot. He's very good-looking, strong, and incredibly mysterious."
Here's what Marissa Meyer says about Wolf: "Wolf is on the run from his past. As a child he was pulled into a violent, almost feral street gang: The Order of the Pack. The tattoo on his arm is a constant reminder that no one ever leaves the Pack and survives, but here's hoping to be the first.
Wolf is earning a rough living as a street fighter when his path crosses with Scarlet Benoit, a beautiful girl whose family has recently become a victim of the Pack's cruelty. Even knowing what the Pack will do to him if they find out, Wolf is willing to help Scarlet find her missing grandmother but the dark secrets that he still harbors might prove to be Scarlet's undoing."
Quotes:“I knew they would kill me when they found out, but…” He struggled for words, releasing a sharp breath. “I think I realized that I would rather die because I betrayed them, than live because I betrayed you.”
“We met less than a week ago and in that time I've done nothing but lie and cheat and betray you. I know. But if you give me a chance...all I want is to protect you. To be near you. For as long as I'm able.”
“But you're the only one, Scarlet. You'll always be the only one.”
“She sighed, annoyed at her restlessness. “So,” she said, disrupting Wolf in another backward glance.
“Who would win in a fight—you or a pack of wolves?”
He frowned at her, all seriousness. “Depends,” he said, slowly, like he was trying to figure out her motive for asking. “How big is the pack?”
“I don’t know, what’s normal? Six?”
“I could win against six,” he said. “Any more than that and it could be a close call.”
Scarlet smirked. “You’re not in danger of low self-esteem, at least.”
“What do you mean?”
“Nothing at all.” She kicked a stone from their path. “How about you and … a lion?”
“A cat? Don’t insult me.”
She laughed, the sound sharp and surprising. “How about a bear?”
“Why, do you see one out there?”
“Not yet, but I want to be prepared in case I have to rescue you.”
The smile she’d been waiting for warmed his face, a glint of white teeth flashing. “I’m not sure. I’ve never had to fight a bear before.”

Harry Potter Moment [12] - Favorite Book 3 Moment
This is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/ films/ J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! She is picking a topic within HP for us to focus on each week and then if anyone wants to take part feel free! All she asks is to link back to her blog :). There is now a full list of the topics to come here.
Favorite Book 3 Moment:
So many great things in this book! Small things that I loved like Sir Cadogen and the Knight Bus. The Knight Bus was a fun introduction because it was a new form of travel introduced and it was just such a blast! Hagrid becomes a teacher and we meet Buckbeak. We also learn about the time-turner.
I'm going to reuse a picture that I created for one of my Sidekick Showcase posts because it works for this one so well. My favorite moment was when the Weasley Twins gave Harry the Maurader's Map. This sparked me wanting to know more about Messrs. Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs and trying to work out that riddle as well as growing fonder of Lupin and Sirius. The marauders, as well as the map itself, are one of my favorite parts of this series, and this is the moment that started it all.

I loved Jane so much in this series. This girl packs a major punch and she doesn't even have to move. Tiny in stature, she has men twice her size shaking in their boots when she walks into a room. I love it!! Cold and heartless, she enjoys inflicting pain with her vampiric power that makes a person believe they are in debilitating pain, crumpling them to the floor and immobilizing them. Along with her brother Alec (who steals away all senses), they provide the most offensive power team for the Volturi which is the ruling body among vampires, consisting of the strongest and most powerful members, and enforcing vampire laws. I was absolutely thrilled when one of my favorite actresses portrayed her in the movie series. Dakota Fanning has long been a favorite of mine since Zane used to be obsessed with Cat in the Hat. Fanning has a way with tiny facial expressions that make such a huge impact, that cause her to completely steal a scene. I hope you enjoyed Jane as much as I did.
Quotes:
"This may hurt just a little."
"She glared at me, her jaw clenched with the intensity of her focus. I shrank back, waiting for the pain."
"Nothing happened."
"At first I thought it was a young boy. The newcomer was as tiny as Alice, with lank, pale brown hair trimmed short. The body under the cloak - which was darker, almost black - was slim and androgynous. But the face was too pretty for a boy. The wide-eyed, full lipped face would make a Botticelli angel look like a gargoyle. Even allowing for the dull crimson irises."
"Jane smiled at me, the bright, happy smile of an innocent child, and suddenly I was on fire. It was like I'd gone back in time to the worst night of my life. Fire was in every vein of my body, covering every inch of my skin, gnawing through the marrow of every bone. It felt like I was buried in the middle of my coven's funeral bonfire, with the flames on every side. There wasn't a single cell in my body that wasn't blazing with the worst agony imaginable. I could barely hear myself scream over the pain in my ears."

This week's Question:
What book (or TV show or movie) have you not read that seemingly everyone else has?
A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens
Goodreads Summary:
'Liberty, equality, fraternity, or death; -- the last, much the easiest to bestow, O Guillotine!'
After eighteen years as a political prisoner in the Bastille, the ageing Doctor Manette is finally released and reunited with his daughter in England. There the lives of two very different men, Charles Darnay, an exiled French aristocrat, and Sydney Carton, a disreputable but brilliant English lawyer, become enmeshed through their love for Lucie Manette. From the tranquil roads of London, they are drawn against their will to the vengeful, bloodstained streets of Paris at the height of the Reign of Terror, and they soon fall under the lethal shadow of La Guillotine.
This edition uses the text as it appeared in its serial publication in 1859 to convey the full scope of Dickens's vision, and includes the original illustrations by H. K. Browne ('Phiz'). Richard Maxwell's introduction discusses the intricate interweaving of epic drama with personal tragedy.
As far as a movie goes, I've never seen Avatar though I know I'm in the minority there :D
