Sunday Cover Scramble [60]

Let's have some fun! I am going to post covers on here every Sunday that are scrambled up graphically, making it hard to tell what cover it is. I would like your guesses on what cover you think I've posted. I won't answer you until the next day to let you know if you are right, allowing other to guess as well. Some will be hard, and others may be easy. If you need hints, I will only post covers of series talked about on my blog previously. Also, let me know in the comments if you'd like some more hints and I'll offer some more throughout the day if no one guesses it correctly. Here we go:

Sidekick Showcase [68] - Unlucky

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. In some cases, the sidekicks actually steal the show and you like them better than the heroine or hero. Maybe they didn't have enough page time for how great they were. Anyone can play along! I will post my Sidekicks on Saturday, then whichever day during the week that you would like to post yours, you can put your link in on my page. Just do the following:

• Choose a sidekick *or someone other than the hero or heroine* that you would like to put in the spotlight that fits in the week's topic
• Share a picture (if you can) and information about the character
• Give the title and author of a book the character can be found in
• Please don't include too many spoilers when describing why the character is such a great sidekick
• The day of your post, put your link in below and grab the code for your post so you can see the others that post their's throughout the week as well

Sidekick Showcase March - Oscars and St. Patty's Day Topics: best dressed, biggest drama queen, red head, lucky, Irish, Saintly, ect.

For April? I'd like to ask you guys for some topics. I'm out of ideas at the moment so I could really use your help!

My choice is Jace
Mortal Instruments - Cassandra Clare

So Jace is a Shadowhunter that Clary meets at a nightclub in a harrowing scene. Without giving the story away, I'll just say that Clary gets close to Jace, Isabelle, and Alec by fighting baddies with them and learns more about herself along the way. Jace is cocky and handsome, but so skilled at fighting demons that he's earned the arrogance a bit. Every time this kid gets a break, something else is happening to knock him further back. Not only that, but things get worse and worse each time. I'm really hoping there's a happy ending in store for him somehow.

Quotes:

“Have you fallen in love with the wrong person yet?'
Jace said, "Unfortunately, Lady of the Haven, my one true love remains myself."
..."At least," she said, "you don't have to worry about rejection, Jace Wayland."
"Not necessarily. I turn myself down occasionally, just to keep it interesting.”

“Sarcasm is the last refuge of the imaginatively bankrupt.”

“The boy never cried again, and he never forgot what he'd learned: that to love is to destroy, and that to be loved is to be the one destroyed.”

“Don't order any of the faerie food," said Jace, looking at her over the top of his menu. "It tends to make humans a little crazy. One minute you're munching a faerie plum, the next minute you're running naked down Madison Avenue with antlers on your head. Not," he added hastily, "that this has ever happened to me.”

Harry Potter Moment of the Week [19] - Favorite Part in Book 7

This is a meme hosted by Uncorked Thoughts. The aim of this meme is to share with fellow bloggers a character, spell, chapter, object or quote from the books/ films/ J. K. Rowling herself or anything Potter related! She is picking a topic within HP for us to focus on each week and then if anyone wants to take part feel free! All she asks is to link back to her blog :). There is now a full list of the topics to come here.

Favorite Part in Book 7

There are a lot of great things about book 7 in general, but most of my favorite parts revolved around McGonagall. She really shines in this one. Out of all the moments, I'm choosing when she used Piertotum Locamotor. The image in my head of all the statues and suits of armor around the school leaping to life to protect the school was amazing. Getting to see it on the big screen was even more spectacular. I LOVED it when they put in the movie, "I've always wanted to use that spell."

So sorry that I have not been on! Please excuse my absence!
Things have been pretty hectic and I had to take a break for a bit due to a bunch going on at home.

My choice is Tasselhoff Burrfoot
Dragonlance Series - Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman

Tasselhoff Burrfoot picture created by Jaclyn Canada
There are many authors of the Dragonlance books, but Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman wrote the majority of the ones that Tas appears in

Tasselhoff, better known as Tas, is a kender in the Dragonlance world. Tas is very child-like, curious, and has a Kleptomania problem. Kender have a tendency to 'find' things in their possession that aren't theirs and adamantly argue that they are NOT thieves. Throughout the whole series, Tas is my absolute favorite. Tas is fearless and ready to handle any situation that arises, although he does fear for those that he cares about. He is fiercely loyal. He is extremely funny, always looking on the bright side, and collects maps. When he draws his own maps, he has a tendency to create places that aren't really there instead of being accurate.

Quotes:

“How do you know they're magic and not some mechanical device of the dwarves?" Tanis asked, sensing that Tas was hiding something.
Tas gulped. He had been hoping Tanis wouldn't ask him that question.
"Uh," Tas stammered, "I---I guess I did sort of happened to, uh, mention them to Raistlin one night when you were all busy doing something else. He told me they might be magic. To find out, he said one of those weird spells of his and they--uh--began to glow. That meant they were enchanted. He asked me what they did and I demonstrated and he said they were 'glasses of true seeing.' The dwarven magic-users of old made them to read books written in other languages and--" Tas stopped.
"And?" Tanis pursued.
"And--uh--magic spellbooks." Tas's voice was a whisper.
"And what else did Raistlin say?"
"That if I touched his spellbooks or even looked at them sideways, he'd turn me into a cricket and s-swallow m-me whole," Tasselhoff stammered. He looked up at Tanis with his wide eyed. "I believed him, too."
Tanis shook his head. Trust Raistlin to come up with a threat awful enough to quench the curiosity of a kender.”

“The energetic kender had already grabbed hold of the dwarf's boot and heaved, propelling Flint head first right into the hard-muscled body of the young bronze dragon. Hands flailing wildly, Flint caught hold of the harness on the dragon's neck and hung on for dear life, revolving slowly in the air like a sack on a hook.

"What are you doing?" Tas asked in disgust, gazing up at Flint. "This is no time to play! Here, let me help--"

"Stop it! Let go!" roared Flint, kicking at Tasselhoff's hands. "Get back! Get back, I say!"

"Get up yourself then," Tas said, hurt, backing up.

Puffing and red-faced, the dwarf dropped to the ground. "I'll get on in my own good time!" he said, glaring at the kender. "Without help from you!"

...The dwarf cast a glance back at the big bronze dragon and folded his arms across his chest stubbornly. "I've got to give this some thought--"

"Oh, come on, Flint!" Tas begged. "You're only stalling. I want to fly! Please, Flint, hurry!" The kender brightened. "I could go by myself..."

Sidekick Showcase [66] - Best Leading Man

Sidekick Showcase, previously known as Sidekick Saturday, is a weekly bookish meme, hosted here by Jaclyn at JC's Book Haven. There are many secondary characters that are as great as the primaries. My choice is Mr. Darcy
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Mr. Darcy picture created by Jaclyn Canada as portrayed by Matthew Macfadyen

Fitzwilliam Darcy is a character that shows us that things are not always what they seem. He is of high status and appears arrogant to those not of his close circle of friends. They however see him as one of the kindest people they've ever met. One fun thing about this book is the intense debate readers get into about who is 'Pride' and who is 'Prejudice'. The argument can be made that Darcy is prideful and will not engage with ladies below his stature. He is also prejudiced about these women because he believes they are all after marrying a rich husband. However, Elizabeth is too proud to get close to Darcy because he hurt her feelings on their initial meeting. She is also prejudiced against him being a snob and too rich. So I'm of the mind that they both share the two title's characteristics. The best part of the book is how it all unfolds and that neither of them at the end hold onto their pride and prejudice, but let it go. If you haven't read it, please do. Or at least see the movie :D The only adaptation I've seen is with Kiera Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen (I'm watching it now), but I'm sure the Colin Firth mini-series is very enjoyable as well.

Quotes:

“I have faults enough, but they are not, I hope, of understanding. My temper I dare not vouch for. It is, I believe, too little yielding— certainly too little for the convenience of the world. I cannot forget the follies and vices of other so soon as I ought, nor their offenses against myself. My feelings are not puffed about with every attempt to move them. My temper would perhaps be called resentful. My good opinion once lost, is lost forever.”

“You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged; but one word from you will silence me on this subject for ever.”

“In vain have I struggled. It will not do. My feelings will not be repressed. You must allow me to tell you how ardently I admire and love you.”

“She is tolerable, but not handsome enough to tempt me, and I am in no humor at present to give consequence to young ladies who are slighted by other men.”
